About Mila

With a family tree full of artists and designers, Mila was destined to be in a creative profession. After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Apparel Design, the Dallas native with Latvian/German heritage headed to New York to pursue her career in Fashion. Starting as a design assistant at Calvin Klein, she then freelanced at other design houses, a fashion trend forecasting publication, and as a visual merchandiser for upscale 5th avenue stores. Mila also began costuming films, which eventually relocated her to Los Angeles. Having had many exciting and challenging projects in Hollywood, she acquired another aspect of experience, from a styling and costuming perspective.

In 2009, Mila was selected from thousands of applicants to compete in Project Runway, Season 7. She earned a spot as one of the final 3, and showed a Fall 2010 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York In February. Her collection was extremely well received by critics and potential consumers alike. Recently, Mila was invited to compete again on Project Runway All-Stars, airing January 5, 2012 on Lifetime.

Having come full circle, Mila launched her eponymous label in 2010, with a Spring 2011 collection. In addition to her primary collection, Mila designs a capsule collection of one-of-a-kind garments and accessories constructed from 100% vintage and repurposed cashmere, called M|R|C.

At the crux of the collection’s philosophy is clothing which is unique yet approachable with a modern graphic sophistication driven by art, design, and architectural inspiration. The collection reflects a modernist approach and nod to the Bauhaus and 1960’s abstract art movements.

It is a contemporary sportswear collection for women of any age who appreciate progressive design that is enduring in it’s modernity.
